The way of serving food is a very important cultural aspect in the East, more specifically Indonesia. The food served must be presented politely and attractive at the same time. This idea is what inspired designer Artha Sanjaya and his craftman partner, Kang Udung to design the food tray, Bamboo Splite.
Just like any other food tray, this product’s main function is to carry food, but the focus of the Bamboo Splite is to accentuate the aesthetic beauty of the bamboo, by showing that the bamboo material itself is a part of Indonesian ethnicity.
Other than for carrying food, the Bamboo Splite also functions as a food display base so there’s no need to remove the food from the tray. Just set the tray down on the table, and you have a well presented display of food ready to be eaten!
The early form of this product was inspired by the sesajen (ritual offerings), from the animism and dynamism culture, that was then modified further into a more modern form by processing at least 2 types of bamboo. The form of the tray that looks like it ’split’ gives it the impression of a second leveled surface from the original base, but of course the main course should be placed in the middle of the tray.
