Ink Calendar

What happens when you put together a simple- but very naughty-with no boundries idea, a good knowledge on a specific materials character, and the patience to do research?

The answer is Ink Calender!

A smile broke on my face and an amazed“cool!” escaping me when I saw this interactive work of Oscar Diaz, a  Spanish designer. I can assure you this reaction wasn’t exaggerated,  absolutely not!

After being exited by its very interesting visual appearance, I continued on to read the description. It was this that turned my exitement into admiration.

Oscar Diaz isn’t only creative, using the absorbant paper idea onto his product. He’s really serious with the idea, that he even experimented on 60 different types of paper before finding the right match for it. But the most amazing feat was finding the perfect formula so that the time needed for the ink to spread onto the number shaped paper (showing the date when the number is fully inked) is the exact same time it takes for a single day to change!

This calender has turned  a usually ignored small matter into a widely discussed object. I can guarantee that when you get a chance to see this incredible calander in person, you’ll enjoy the slow-but-sure absorbant process of the ink with a smile on your face and a definite ‘cool!’ escaping your lips.

In short, (taken from a famous design website)

“it’s not the idea which is the art, it’s more the way somebody handles the idea that makes art.”
