KUKUK-GUNDALL-OBON-RIDE ON

There’s an interesting story behind the creation of these office stationaries. Inspired by the differences as well as similarities they found in each other from chatting and discussing as a group, taking part in the TEDx Temanggung Workshop.

A while ago, Piranti Works, the producer of the wooden radio, Magno, held a workshop to process abandoned wood waste. This workshop is part of the TEDx event that’s being held independantly.

The background is a combination of Indonesian and Japanese culture, Prananda Luffiansyah Malasan, Raditya Ardianto Taepur, Sachiko Shiraiwa, Remi Hasegawa, and Akihiro Tamura found various differances between themselves. One of them is the different impressions they each had of their trip on the way to the city of Temanggung, where Piranti Works is held.

“For my first visit to Indonesia, which was yesterday, all I saw were a lot of animals and motorcycles, when they only have  roads fit for motorcycles. There is such a big number of motorcycles in this country, because no matter how shabby their houses are, these people can still own a nice motorcycle.”, according to our Japanese guests. On the other hand, for Prananda Luffiansyah and Raditya Ardianto Taepur, the nonstop 8-hour road trip was very tiring. “While extremely tired, we still tried to spontaneously explain the connection between both countries impression on the others’ cultures, and our product. Ours being the first thing that came into mind on Japanese’s Gundam, that ‘Gundam can beat Doraemon. Feeling that these differences are interesting and worth preserving, they all agreed to turn this mutual feeling into a form of product.

They went back in discussion, trying to find more similarities from each other. It was then they decided to create a business card holder, based on the two countries’ same habit in offering their name card when introducing themselves.

Starting as a media to create products out of wood waste has then turned into something special. The success of combining both and difference and similarity of the team’s culture has made this product worth talking about. It’s all about the story!
