Salt and Pepper Tree

Nature and design. Two things that when combined, can produce amazing creations.

These two elements are adapted by Ka-Lai Chan in the “Salt and Pepper Tree” creation.

In the beginning, this design was made for a project that was going to be entered into a competition by Iittala. Iittala is from Finland, and that’s what Ka-Lai Chan used as her inspiration for this design.

“The Salt and Pepper Tree” represents a branch. What’s used here, is the idea of how a new tree branch grows from the old branch.

The material used are wood (taken from real tree branches) and porcelain. For the porcelain shakers, Ka-Lai used the tree branch to create the form and as a the shakers mold.

This product would be the perfect addition for your kitchen, with it’s design and main idea infused in it, this creation has its own special value. No matter what, “nature” and “design” is a combination that can’t be separated.
