Inspired by the visualization of nature’s harmony: the wind gliding above the waters’ constant currant that reflects the sky to no end, Sleepy Lagoon is a good sample of the universe consistency through a table design. I immediately felt that this table tells a story.
“Designers should contemplate the void that surrounds objects, the space between objects, and the relation between those objects. I believe furniture – chairs, tables, lights etc. – could be like a constellation of stars, and we could make lines to connect them three-dimensionally and thereby construct a specific story, As a designer, I believe it is a task to create the stories.” (Kazuhiro Yamanaka)
Through a very simple design, the Sleepy Lagoon table has cautiously slip in a delicate curve that reflects a harmony between space rythmic and mother nature. The space between the specified curve and table surface is intended for object placements
This table totally reflects Yamanaka’s passion on the concept of using minimal materials for a maximum effect. As reflected on Ymanaka’s note on his sketches, don’t use computer to draw curves, he believes in the natural consistant spontaneity that he feels will support his creative process.
