“The design of this work is actually intended for an architectural project I designed in Ho Chi Minh City in 2006. However, the project was build half-way due to its owners disagreement for its future development based on a 4 hectare site (see pictures Votu House). My proposal is to have many of these (‘Urban Seat-Caterpillar X&Y) made and will integrate to the outdoor garden environment of the site. Since the project was disassembled, I have transferred both work to the Artinno Galleria as an outdoor garden seater for visitors which served both as a functional sculpture and design again in this context.” (Ang Yian Sann)

The two very heavy blocks of wood – so heavy, 7 people are needed to pick them up - expresses the concept
“the lightness of being”. This seat was created as part of
Extemporize Design Series, which is an idea that defines the grey line between art and design, with the concept of
“do with whatever is at hand”. The challenge here is to create a light impression out of heavy materials.
Ang Yian Sann then adds small ‘feet’ at the bottom of the wooden blocks, giving the blocks a ‘floating’ impression. Added Ang Yian Sann, “I also included the concept of ‘woman and men’ in this work as a factor that completes each other in life. When I see, they are as if moving around in the garden. Sometimes, movement can be expressed by stillness.”
Kedua balok kayu yang sangat berat dan membutuhkan 7 orang untuk mengangkutnya ini mengekspresikan konsep
“the lightness of being”. Kursi ini dibuat sebagai bagian dari
Extemporize Design Series, yang merupakan sebuah gagasan untuk mendefinisikan wilayah abu-abu antara seni dan desain, dengan konsep
“do with whatever is at hand”.
Ang Yian Sann menambahkan, “I also included the concept of ‘woman and men’ in this work as a factor that completes each other in life. When I see, they are as if moving around in the garden. Sometimes, movement can be expressed by stillness.”
