“I had memories back in my childhood. During the summer break, with a net and a plastic jar on my hand, spending my time trying to catch insects to fulfill my curiosity. Instead of insects, one day I saw this big black bird flying over my head. I was amazed and tried to catch it with my net, but I failed.
The excitement I had that day was more than everything that time. It laid in my memories as one of my victory, a victory over the memorable passage of time. This work showing the black bird ironically landed on my net at the end of the day – as a mocking act, since I never caught it.“ (R. Yuki Agriardi)
I really enjoy recalling my childhood memories, one of them of playing in the front yard of my house. There always seems to be small, simple precious things i get from that place. Any small insignificant thing became interesting at the time.
R. Yuki Agriardi has translated one of his childhood memories into a creation he named A Victory Over Memorable Passage of Time. A clock whose form is based on an insect catching net. I view this clock as a simple and personal creation.
This clock reminds me of how when we work hard to achieve something, only to finally receive it when we stop. And when I expressed my thoughts on it, R. Yuki Agriardi only replied, “I just thought of it as more like something comical or a joke, the bird which perched on the net was more like a mocking act.”
